$30 per child ~ for kids of all ages!
Does your child love to explore the world of music and dance? From the moment we are born, we are meant to use our voices to express ourselves, to cry out, to sing.
The voice was the first human instrument, and instruments are meant to be played!
In this dynamic, improvisational musicmaking class, we will learn how to build songs collaboratively by layering repeated sonic patterns (think of us as a human loop pedal!); experiment with the sounds of nature; connect music, breath, and movement; and experience how sounds can change our mood, pace, and sense of connection.
The Sanskrit word "mandala" can mean "magic circle,” much like a capoeira roda, a gathering around a campfire, or a group of friends grooving on the dancefloor.
Based on the tradition of circlesongs, also known as Música do Círculo, we will create music of the moment through games by layering rhythms, melodies, and harmonies using our voices, bodies, and instruments.
Communal musicmaking is ancient, natural, global, connective, healthy, and empowering. Your child will continue to learn musical skills, the socioemotional power of group expression, and the empowering skills of improvisation. Kids of all ages are welcome, no matter their experience!
